The Hoosier School Boy Edward Eggleston Charles Scribners Sons 9781140248903 Books Reviews
Worth the read.
Purchased as gift my Indiana-born family member who enjoyed this book as a child. In good shape. As described. Very cool in terms of sample of writing at the time and representative of people's experiences of the time according to my family. Thanks. I enjoy the style of writing.
Nice large text and an intriguing glimpse into the mind of an interesting and creative writer--and the long-gone, innocent world he lived in. It is listed as being for children, but an adult should enjoy it as well. Be forewarned, though, that it reflects the culture and values of the setting, 1850s Indiana, so you may want to read it yourself before reading it to your child.
Edward Eggleston wrote this book for juveniles in 1883. I read it years ago as a child. The book describes how a boy in his early teens met the challenges of his day as he attended a local school. I purchased and reread the book, because the behavior of some of our leaders of today reminded me of the behavior of the bullies in the story.
